Unsung Heroes
We think that one of the “unsung heroes” – people who work at improving the City of Troy – should be publicly recognized and thanked by the community.  This year the Troy Treasure Awardee will be presented at the TRIP & RCHR HomeComing Dinner on October 27th.

Nominate
Eligible nominees may be a Troy resident, community group, or business who is passionately committed to improving Troy, toils in his or her neighborhood out of a love of community, and demonstrates his or her hometown pride in Troy in very positive and real ways.

2013 TRIP & RCHR Annual Homecoming Dinner Recognizes Two Terrific Women

It was a fun evening at the TRIP & RCHR Annual Homecoming Dinner on October 28th as they bestowed awards to two amazing women. The 2013 Community Citizenship award was presented o Eileen Bagnoli, who recently retired as President and CEO of Pioneer Bank, after a 41 year career there. TRIP’s 2013 Troy Treasure award went to Marion Field, who has been active in Troy and particularly in Little Italy for decades. John Hedley provided a great deal of entertainment to the crowd as he emceed the dinner (what a storyteller!) and his likewise very talented teenage daughter, Deborah, wowed everyone with her incredible piano playing. 

Dinner guests were also treated to a short video of TRIP’s community-building work, highlighting the impact of their efforts on 9th Street resident James “Chick” Mayben who blossomed into an energetic and committed leader after attending a conference with TRIP three years ago.

Small City Revitalization

Second Annual 

New York State Neighborhood Revitalization Conference

Last September a group of local residents launched the first Annual New York State Neighborhood Revitalization Conference.  Held on a weekend at Russell Sage College, a keynote talk by author James Kunstler launched us into a day of lively interaction and discussion with workshop topics including vacant properties, land banking, green rehab, solar energy, and green infrastructure.

This year on Saturday, September 21, the second conference will be held at Russell Sage College. This year, the keynote speaker will be Vincent DeSantis whose book, “Toward Civic Integrity, Re-establishing the Micropolis,” grows out of the history of Gloversville and Johnstown and his reflections on small city revitalization. Workshops now scheduled include such topics as empty churches, Habitat for Humanity, youth court, Maker’s Space, and the Mohawk Harvest Co-Op. There are many individuals and groups that are making a significant difference in Troy. The Troy Treasure award, created by TRIP in 2005, is a way to recognize and thank one of them publicly each year. 

We are seeking nominations for the 2013 Troy Treasure awardee. This year's Troy Treasure awardee will be recognized at the TRIP & RCHR Homecoming Dinner on October 28th.
